(SPACE). Rendezvous of Gemini 6 and 7, signed by Thomas Stafford and Wally Schirra
NASA, 1965
Chromogenic print on Kodak paper (16 x 20 in.). Fine.
This spectacular mammoth photograph shows the first manned space rendezvous, as Gemini 6 goes nose to nose with Gemini 7, the Earth in the lower right.
Signed and inscribed by Mission Pilot Thomas Stafford (“First rendezvous / Gemini 6+7 / Dec 1965 / Tom Stafford, Plt.”) and signed by Command Pilot Wally Schirra (“Wally Schirra Cdr.”).
This famous mission showed that two spacecraft could safely met in approximately the same orbit. Staffed and Schirra were aboard Gemini 6 while Edward white and Michale Collins were on Gemini 7. The two vehicles met in December 1965 and stayed together in orbit for one day. This mission paved the way for the Apollo 11 manned Moon landing three and one-half years later.
